Reflections on Life as a Garda (As Gaeilge – In Irish)

A native of Carna in Galway’s Gaeltacht area, Retired Superintendent Matt Cosgrave speaks in his native Irish about his life in An Garda Síochána. Matt, who joined AGS in 1959, reflects on his background in rural Galway, the introduction of electricity to Carna in the 1950s,, travelling to England where he spent a year, the Irish language in his life, joining AGS, Pearse Street Garda Station, social life in Dublin, Garda Music Band, travelling to America, promotion to Sergeant in 1969, working in Tipperary, Dun Laoghaire and Cabra. He also remembers the H Block riots in Ballsbridge (18 July 1991), policing in Cyprus, personal development, continuing education, and reflections on life as a Garda.
