Capturing Our History is an oral history project, undertaken by the Garda Síochána Retired Members Association, to mark the centenary of the founding of An Garda Síochána in 1922.  The purpose of the project is to record stories and recollections that will help to tell the story of An Garda Síochána across the last century, in the voices of the men and women who were there.

Whether Michael McKenna’s powerful recollection of the ground shaking around him as bombs detonated in Dublin in 1974, or Catherine Bartley’s determination to change attitudes towards women and their uniforms, or John O’Brien’s poignant memory of arriving at Templemore to join An Garda Siochána, only to be told of his mother’s passing, the memory documented, opens up an insight into the force as never before.
